Drawings on paper

Theo’s drawings are filled with narrative, often using familiar objects that invite viewers to form links to their personal life experience.

Theo’s drawings are often in response to his work with young people and being a father. Theo uses his visual language to explore growing up in the UK (predominantly Cornwall), looking at mental health, feelings, coping with life and supporting friends and family at a time when services and support for young people can feel so slim that many young people can feel they don’t matter.

Collage work

Theo enjoys finding work that may have been previously ignored and found tucked away in the back of his plan chest. Theo likes to look, cut, tear and move around to help his consciousness attach with his unconsciousness and find a visual language that he feels happy with and that he feels communicates a story that is within him that he would like to share. Sometimes Theo likes to add to the collage, drawing and marking the work as he feels.

Cardboard box work

‘Looking for happiness inside a cardboard box’ series began during the beginning of the covid pandemic while I considered much of my sadness and feeling of disconnection. I noticed that during a period of time where we were advised to stay at home and to adhere to social distancing I was struggling as a social animal.

During this time I observed many empty cardboard boxes outside of homes and it felt to me that we were looking for happiness through obtaining things that came delivered inside these vessels. I wondered whether the contact from the delivery drivers or the thing itself was a bringer of happiness or comfort. At a time of financial stress I found that these cardboard boxes provided me an opportunity to be creatively free and express my emotions and energy without hesitating about costs and I quickly found personal happiness inside of these cardboard boxes.

Theo continues to enjoy this process.
